June beers

The IPA that I had to save by blending will be poured on the 4th. It turned out well.
For 1/2 of the beer only being in the keg for 2 days it was actually quite good. We finished it at the BBQ in short order. That was the 1st beer I had to seriously alter. When I transferred to the keg too much Hop matter got into the keg and it tasted like grass. So, I filtered that beer through  a screen into another keg and then blended it with an extract version of the same recipe. There is another keg of it maturing. Should only get better.

Tasting notes.
  • Stone 14 Emperial IPA- For a beer this big the hop aroma is understated. Smooth malt flavor. Well balanced with bittering hops.
  • Mikkeler I Beat yoU-This beer starts with a great hop aroma and follows through with excellent bitterness. For a Scottish brewery they nailed the American Style Imperial IPA. Mikkeler is known for great beers and this is just another great one.
  • Mehana Hawaiian Crow Porter- Nice roast aroma. Almost coffee. Pours with a big head but it drops quickly. Good roast flavor and a dry finish.
I won't know about the contest results for the 3 Wise Monkeys stout until the end of the month. One of the local beer bars tasted it (thanks to Andrew Dorland) and they asked for a keg of it. I think that is a good sign.
