Another Beer Revolution trip

Going to Beer Revolution is an ever changing experience. The taps change so fast that if you spend more than a few hours there you may not be able to finish with the beer that you start. Not that you would want to. With so many great beers there are always more than you can taste in one trip. That's why going with other beer lovers is a great idea. Everyone gets to taste more beers. With that said here is the list for the evening

  • Ballast Point Big Eye IPA-I was disappointed in this beer. BP is a great brewery and I have enjoyed most of their beers. This had a phenolic medicinal taste though. It turns out it was the bottom of the keg and it must have been an older keg. The bartender (and co-owner) was kind enough to buy me a replacement.
  • Port Brewing Wipeout IPA-A great brewery that makes big beers with lots of hops and this beer fits right in. Nice big hop aroma followed by balanced bitterness and a clean finish.
  • Half Moon Bay Brewing Bourbon Barrel Quad-Surprisingly good. Great subtle bourbon flavor. Like a good port.
  • Gouden Carolus Easter Beer - Golden Dark Strong. Taste was full, raisins, plums, brown sugar with some herbal notes; complex and interesting but perhaps a bit too sweet compared to others of this style. More like an interesting dopplebock.
  • Kasteel CuvĂ©e Du Chateau from Brouwerij Van Honsebrouck N.V.-Subtle tart and slightly sweet cherry character with a hint of oak wood. Like a nice sherry.
  • He'Brew Bittersweet Lenny's R.I.P.A.-A Double India Pale Ale with Rye Malt brewed in tribute to Lenny Bruce. Big malt flavor in middle and bitter in back. Hoppy and spicy--grapefruit and a nice sweetness pervades.Good beer.
  • Drake's Jolly Roger-Great barleywine. 2009 vintage so still has huge hoppy flavor. I love this beer.
  • Half Moon Bay Brewing Brandy Barrel Quad-Very smooth. Flavors of berries and chocolate.
