LA Beers round 1

I have arrived in LA and made the preliminary scouting for beers near the hotel. There are a few small brew pubs that I have not heard of before. I went to the closest tonight and was disappointed. Weiland's Underground is in a strip mall location underground. The atmosphere needs work. They don't do samplers so I tried the IPA. It was not bad and in fact quite clean. Although it was a mild IPA I considered it drinkable but forgettable. After ordering the fish and chips I had a 2nd pint of the IPA and decided that it really was an average beer. The fish and chips were too greasy. I won't be going back. On the walk home we decided to stop at Casey's Irish Pub. Despite the TVs it was a much better environment. The beer selection was standard and at $7.50 a pint we had one Smithwick's and moved on. At this point we were headed for the hotel but after a recommendation from a friend of a friend, Jason Nall, we stopped at 7 Grand. And I am glad we did. The atmosphere is wonderful with dark woods, leather booths, and velvet curtains. The bar is known for its whiskey selection but I was pleased to see Rasputin, Chimay, and Stone IPA on tap. This is a place that we will visit again.
